Description:

This session is intended for finance officers, elected officials, or other public-sector employees who are tasked with developing financial policies. The class will cover the importance of financial policies in overall financial management, best practice examples, and how to develop effective policies.

Program Description: 

When developed and implemented effectively financial policies create the standards for financial stewardship for a local government. They express the governing body and staff’s intent for how financial management will be conducted. We will cover key types of financial policies, such as fund balance, revenue, debt, and a variety of operating and capital budget policies. There will be an emphasis on creating policies that are of the greatest relevancy to the fiscal risks your organization faces.
