National GFOA Scholarships Information

CGFOA Education Scholarship Policy

PURPOSE:  To assist Colorado Active CGFOA Members, no matter the size of the organization, with in-state education and training in keeping with the organizations professional goals while increasing their knowledge and skills to better serve the entities they belong to and their citizens and taxpayers.

FUNDING:  The CGFOA Board of Directors will annually authorize and designate the amount of money available to assist with the funding of individual attendance at various in-state programs.

PROGRAMS ELIGIBLE:  The following programs offered here in Colorado are considered eligible for Scholarship assistance to our members:

GFOA Technical Training Programs
Annual Conference
DOLA Training on Financial Affairs
CGFOA Education Committee sponsored Seminars

INDIVIDUALS ELIGIBLE:   Applicants are encouraged to supplement the CGFOA scholarship funds with payment of a portion of the costs of attendance by either the person’s organization or by them selves.  This allows CGFOA to increase the educational assistance offered by its members

1.     Individuals must be members in good standing of CGFOA at the time of the application.

2.      Individuals should describe how the training would benefit their organization.  Individuals should describe their reasons for applying for financial assistance.

3.     Applicants who have received scholarships twice in the last five years may not be eligible.  Only one application per member in any one calendar year will be approved.

4.     In most instances the individuals should be the only financial/accounting persons from their organization who are attending the training session.  CGFOA funds should not be used to send a second or third person from the same organization to the same training opportunity.   However, this discretionary decision will be made by the scholarship committee.

5.     The names of individuals/organizations that receive financial assistance will not be publicly announced at CGFOA meetings.

APPLICATION PROCESS:   Individuals who are interested and eligible must submit their application at least thirty days prior to the classes, and on the form provided by CGFOA.  Applications should be directed to the  the CFGOA Administrator.
